A brief introduction to IPTC

IPTC is the abbreviation for “International Press Telecommunications Council”. This organization developed and continues to maintain a standard for writing textual information to data files and photos. Using the IPTC standard, descriptive text can be saved inside a photo file so it remains available when exchanging photos. The original IPTC data format is widely adopted.

More recently, the IPTC organization has also defined a XMP schema called IPTC4XMP. This schema, which essentially contains the same IPTC data fields written in XMP format, is fully supported by IDimager.

When writing IPTC meta information in IDimager, information will be stored to both the XMP record and to the "original" IPTC record as well. This is done transparently so you dont have to worry about it; its always there.
