With the Quick Search panel you are able to perform searches based on the information in the database. The Quick search can search through several levels of information. The button at the right of the input field allows you to select what type of information should be searched through.

search metadata

The quick search text will search through all stored metadata. The metadata is the text that you enter in the Image Details (Alt+Enter) and generally contains entries like descriptions, titles, etc

search meta keywords only

The quick search text will search through the keyword sections of the metadata only (that is stored in the database). The exact XMP field used is "dc:subject"

In fact this is a subset of the "search metadata" operation.

search catalog labels

The quick search text will search through your catalog labels. This provides you with a quick way to do a catalog search.

search image area descriptions

With IDimager's Image Editor/Viewer you can describe areas of an image. By selecting this option you will be able to search for images that have a specific search term in their area descriptions.

Once you have selected what info to search for, you can enter a (piece of) text in the quick search bar and then press [Enter] to start the search operation. The search results will be presented in the Collection Viewer.

The search text that you enter will be translated to a “contains” queries. For instance, if you enter the search text “noon”, then the application will return all images that at some place contain the text “noon”, for instance a description “afternoon” or a keyword “noon”.

The Quick Search Bar also allows you to combine search terms.

By using the + sign you can enter multiple search terms in the bar that will be combined in the search; for instance: alex+dean will return all images that contain the text “alex” AND “dean.

By using the sign you can enter multiple search terms in the bar that will be excluded in the search; for instance: alex-dean will return all images that contains the text “alex” and NOT “dean”.

By using the ? sign you can enter multiple search terms in the bar that will be joined in the search; for instance alex?dean will return all images that contain the text “alex” OR “dean”.

These samples all combine two terms, but you are free to combine any number and also any condition in the search bar; for instance alex+dean-jane
