Transfer images from an e-mail box

Top  Previous  Next

You can also transfer images that you have received in an e-mail box. IDimager will search for (attached) images in an e-mail box, and the images can then be selected and transferred to the computer.

IDimager supports reading images from POP3 or IMAP4 mail boxes. POP3 is the most commonly used mail protocol for storing internet mail. IMAP4 is a protocol that is commonly used within a professional/business environment, like Microsoft Exchange Server within an office. Regardless of which type of mail protocol you use, make sure you have the connection details like username and password available. If you dont know those, then please contact your internet service provider or your local network provider (helpdesk?).

Start the Downloader by clicking the button “Download” in the main toolbar. Then select the import type “From E-mail Account”.

Step 1: Select mail box

Enter your login details; this applies to POP3 as well as IMAP boxes. Once you have entered the host name, port, user name and password then select the mail protocol that should be used: POP3 or IMAP4.

If you select IMAP4, then youll need to specify which mail folder should be used. To do this, IDimager will present you with all available mail folders, which it can only do if it is connected. That is why you need to enter the login details correctly first. Optionally you can refresh the list of mail folders by clicking the button behind the drop down list.

The option “Delete original message after reading from mail box” can be used to delete the message once it is read. PLEASE BE AWARE! All messages will be deleted if this option is selected, not only the messages that contain photos! Therefore use this option with caution.

Then click “Continue >>” to skip to the next step.

Step 2: Select your photos

This window displays all images found in the specified mail box. You can optionally rotate the images before they are transferred to the computer by clicking the button “Free Rotate” in the toolbar. To clear the current selection and begin reading mail again, click “Get Mail”.

By default all images in this list will be copied to the target location. If you want to deselect some of the images, you must delete them from the list. Do this by selecting them and then pressing [Del] or click “Delete Selected”. The images will then be deleted from the temporary storage folder.

Click “Continue >>” to skip to the next step.

Step 3: Select target location

At this point you enter the Downloader Wizard at step 3. Please refer to the chapter "Transfer images from a memory card" for a thorough description of the steps 3 to 6 of the Downloader.
